A condition of the Lack of desire to eat principal meals or break fast is called Arochaka .
Signs and Symptoms
In addition to the lack loss of desire to eat,one may have sensitiveness of teeth and Kaṣshya(Sour) taste in the mouth due to Vata predominance; sour or acidic (Amla) taste and foul smelling in the mouth may be due to Pitta predominance; and salty or sweet taste and feeling of sliminess, heaviness and stiffness in the mouth may be due to Kapha predominance.
Management
Simple medicines of kitchen
1. Lavaṇa (common salt) and Ārdraka (ginger) is to be taken twice a day before meal.
2. Lemon to be cut into two halves, sprinkle 1 g. powdered Maricha (black pepper) and Lavaṇa (common salt) and to be sucked frequently.
3.Fruits of Pippalī (long pepper), Chavya, Yavanī/Ajwain (ptychotis) and Chincha/Imali (tamarind) to be powdered in equal parts, to be placed on the tongue for chewing.
4. Take barks of Tvak/Dalachīnī (cinnamon), Daruharidra (barberis) and fruit of Yavanī (ptychotis) tro be powdered in equal parts and to be placed on the tongue for chewing.
Simple herbal Preparations
1. Prepare decoction from the seed of Yava (barley). Its 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 1 g. powdered fruit of Pippalī (long pepper) and 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.
2. Mix fresh juice obtained from the seed of Dāḍima (pomegranate) 14 ml. with 1 g. Kṛṣṇa Lavaṇa and 14 g. honey. It is to be retained in the mouth as Kavala (mouth wash) for 2 minutes.
3. Fresh juice obtained from the seed of Dāḍima (pomegranate) – 14 ml., fried seed of Jīraka (cumin) – 1 g. and Śarkarā (raw sugar) – 12 g. are to be mixed together and to be retained in the mouth as Kavala (mouth wash) for 2 minutes.
4. Macerate 26 g. of old fruit of Ciñcā (tamarind) in 100 ml. of water, strain, and add 25 g. of Guḍa (jaggery) and small quantity of powdered Tvak-Dālacīnī (cinnamon) and fruits of Elā (small cardamom) and Marica (black pepper). Take its Kavala (mouth wash) which is to be retained in the mouth for two minutes.
5. Mix Draksha/Munakka ( Dried black grape fruit), seedless fruit rind of Harītakī/Harda (chebulic myrobalan) and sharkara (raw sugar) in equal parts to be taken in the powder form in dose of 3 to 6 g. with 50 ml. of warm water twice a day.
Compound Preparations
1. Dadimadi Churṇa: 1 to 3 g., to be taken with 50 ml. water thrice a day.
2. Yavanī Shadhava Churna: 3 to 6 g., to be taken with 50 ml. warm water twice a day.
3. Dadimashtaka Churna: 2 to 6 g., to be taken with 50 ml. water thrice a day.
4. Lavana Bhaskara Churna: 2 to 6 g., to be taken with 50 ml. warm water thrice a day.
5. Ardraka Khandavaleha: 2 to 6 g., to be taken half an hour before meal with 50 ml. water.
6. Pippalyadi Rasayana: 3 to 6 g., to be taken thrice a day before meal with 50 ml. warm water.
7. Narikela Paka: 1 to 3 g., to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.
Pathya
Godhuma (wheat), Mudga (phascoius bean), Rakta shali (red variety of rice); Takra (butter milk), curd, milk and ghee; leaf of Shigru (drumstick), fruit of Paṭola-parwal (a variety of small cucumber), bulb of Rasona (garlic), Surana-Jimikanda, fruit of Badara (jujube), Vetasa, Drakṣha (raisin or grape fruit), fruit rind of Harītakī (chebulic myrobalan) and Amalaki (embelic myrobalan), Ardraka (ginger), Maricha (black pepper), seeds of Yavanī (ptycotis) and Dadima (pomegranate), fruit of Amra (mango) are useful in Arochaka to increase the desire to eat.
Apathya
Suppression of hunger, eructation and tears; anger, fright, shock, over indulgence in food, intake of uncherished food and living in insanitary condition should be avoided.
